We all are well aware of the new and very questionable terms of service and privacy policies by Whatsapp. These updated terms haven’t been received very well by users of the app as well as the government.

The demand to ban the app is increasing day by day.

Government To Start Examining Controversy Around Whatsapp’s New Updates

The new policies of Whatsapp have been criticized by everyone, as they state that they will start sharing some data with Facebook and the companies affiliated with it as well. The new policies will be effective from February 8 and if users don’t accept these changes, they will no longer have access to use the app after the aforementioned date.

The updated terms of service and privacy policies have alarmed not only the users but the government as well.

As per an official close to the development, the Government of India has started examining the controversy about the new update by Whatsapp, and details are being collected. Reports are that the whole deal is being discussed at the highest levels of the IT ministry.

The official has also revealed, “Also, the privacy update sought by WhatsApp in user agreement in European Union is seen as lenient while in India it is wide-ranging and may have terms that may potentially harm user privacy.”

The government is reportedly bothered about the  ‘regulatory vacuum’ regarding the absence of any law about data protection in India. A bill for a personal data protection law is currently in the parliament, but there is still some time for it to be passed as a law.

CAIT Demands For Whatsapp Ban In India

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also demanded that the Indian Government restrict Whatsapp from implementing the new privacy policy or completely ban Whatsapp and Facebook in India.

The new updates by Whatsapp have been disputedby privacy advocates, entrepreneurs such as Tesla founder Elon Elon Musk, and certain government agencies abroad, who have also highlighted Facebook’s history of data leaks and poor security.

This is still a developing story, and we will keep you informed as we get any more updates!
