Zomato Records More Than 4254 Orders per Minute On December 31; GMV Reached Rs. 75 Crore

Reportedly, Zomato has recorded 60% more sales on December 31 as compared to the new year’s eve of last year. He said that peak orders per minute have been more than 4254, which results in the gross gross merchandise value reaching Rs. 75 crore for the day.

Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, announced this through a tweet, “The demand last night was much higher than what we could process. We ran out of delivery partner capacity much before peak time. If we had unconstrained supply, we could have hit ?100 crores of GMV yesterday.” 

Goyal also stated that Zomato had about 100,000 delivery partners on the night of December 31, and the failure and customer complaint rates are at an all time low for food delivery in India.

Swiggy Records Double Traffic On December 31; New Users’ Orders Double

Swiggy has also recorded a drastic increase in the number of orders received per minute during New Year’s Eve. However, while the company declined to share the exact numerals, a spokesperson has stated that the company has seen the traffic double during the dinnertime as compare to the numbers from last year. 

There has been a growth in Tier II cities and beyond, which has surpassed that seen in metros. Also, he has added that December 31 has been the biggest ever single day for Swiggy 2020.

He said that there was a “huge participation from restaurants, who were very well prepared with staffing their kitchens. Restaurant-driven cancellations were quite low even during the peak of peak.” 

He also said that Swiggy has seen an increase by two times in new users on its platform during the period.
