Vodafone Shuts Down 3G Services; Asks Users To Visit Store To Get 4G SIM Amidst Pandemic!

After successfully transitioning from 3G to 4G services in Mumbai and Bengaluru circles, the Indian telecom operator Vodafone Idea (VI) is upgrading the same for its Delhi circle too.

VI has asked all its subscribers in the Delhi circle to upgrade their existing SIM to 4G, before January 15, 2021, as it will be shutting down all 3G services after this.

VI Shuts 3G Services in Delhi After Jan 15

Vodafone Idea has been involved in its spectrum re-farming process, which theoretically means repurposing the frequency bands that have historically been allocated for 2G mobile services for new generation of mobile technologies, including both 3G and 4G technologies.

VI is using its 3G spectrum for 4G services, under the re-farming process.

As a part of this move, the telecom operator has sent text messages to all its subscribers in the Delhi circle, to upgrade their SIM to 4G before January 15, for uninterrupted service on their phones.

It has also urged its users to visit their nearest VI store for the same.

In a blog titled ‘How to upgrade your Vi™SIM to 4G?’, Vodafone Idea has pointed out the benefits of 4G over 3G and the procedure to upgrade your SIM to 4G.

Data Services No Longer Supported on Old Sim Post Jan 15

VI has mentioned that in case of failure to upgrade your SIM to 4G, it will continue to provide voice calling via 2G.

However, data services will no longer be accessible on old SIM connections.

Additionally, please note that none of this upgradation is required for users already using a Vi 4G SIM.

Thus, in order to continue enjoying data and voice services on your phones, Vi asks its Delhi customers to visit their nearest stores for upgradation of SIM cards to 4G, before Jan 15, 2021.As per the data provided by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, VI holds over 16.21 million wireless subscribers in the Delhi circle.
