The pilots of Air India are protesting against the 58% salary cut, and are also threatening a strike.
Recently, the debt ridden airline had been ordered by the high court to pay the pilots that were sacked.
Air India Pilots Reject 5 Percent Roll Back; Suggest Donating Money To PM Care Fund
The pilots of Air India have announced that they will not be accepting the paltry 5 per cent roll back offered to them in the illegal pay cut. In fact, the aggravated pilots have asked the Air India CMD to donate it towards the Parliament or PM Care Fund.
Indian Pilots’ Guild and Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association have together written a letter to Rajiv Bansal, who is the chairman and managing director of Air India.
In the letter, the two associations state, “We do not accept this paltry 5 per cent roll back in illegal pay cut and you may advice the concerned to donate this 5 per cent towards funds for building the Parliament or PM CARE.”
Previously, 61 pilots took their case to the courts and complained that the airline violated the contract it made with them. As per reports, Air India had previously promised its employees that there would be no layoffs during the critical situation presented by the coronavirus pandemic.
The judges had suggested that the pilots and Air India could come to some sort of a compromise or a golden handshake agreement. This agreement states that Air India should pay its employees a salary of about one month. However, this is way off from what the Air India employees are demanding.
Pilots Threaten To Take ‘Industrial Action’
The pilots of Air India have now said that they will be forced to take ‘industrial action’. They have stated that if they do not see a timely substantial reduction in this disproportionate pay cut, they will be resorting to getting justice through harsher means including ‘Industrial Action’.
In their words, “We have given the management every benefit of doubt as well as ample time to redress the issue of disproportionate pay cut for pilots of Air India and its subsidiaries so there is there is no point left in mincing words.”
