First Ever Fully Automated Driverless Train To Be Unveiled On Monday
The first ever fully automated driverless train of India will be traveling on Delhi Metro’s 37-kilometre-long Magenta Line. This line connects Janakpuri West in Delhi to Botanical Garden in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The announcement for this train was made by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recently.
As per reports, this driverless train service will be gifted by the DMRC to the residents of Delhi only three days after it completes 18 years of operations on December 25. On December 25, 2002, the first Delhi Metro service was launched in the capital by the then prime minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Delhi Metro was the first modern metro service whose services were started by the Indian Government, apart from the Kolkata Metro, which was already running on October 24, 1984.
Ministry Makes Changes In the Metro Railways General Rules To Allow Driverless Trains
However, now, driverless trains have been given allowed to run their operations by The Ministry of Housing and Urban. The ministry has amended the Metro Railways General Rules, 2015, in order to give these permissions.
Additionally, as per the DMRC, the prime minister will also be launching a fully-operational National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for travel on the Airport Express Line of Delhi Metro on the same day.
The driverless train will be working on the hi-tech signalling technology and the communication-based train control (CBTC). Also, the DMRC is already implementing the driverless train technology in the trains which run on the Magenta Line (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden) and Pink Line (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar).
As of now, these trains are being run with a driver present in the cabin. After the launch of the train on December 28, there will be no need for a driver to operate the train. The Delhi Metro has been running trials in order to enable the trains’ switch to driverless operations without a hitch.
