Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce 5 new utility vehicles in the SUV category. This might be the car maker’s attempt to regain a top position in the SUV segment, which is currently dominated by the Hyundai Kia group.

Of these 5 new utility vehicles, Maruti Suzuki’s plans are to introduce 3 new sub-4 meter SUVs. also, there are reports about the widely loved Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza receiving a generation change in the first half of 2022.

The largest car manufacturer of India might also be working on an all-new compact crossover based on the Baleno platform, as revealed by rumours. Also, this crossover will be pitted against the Tata Nexon. 

The third sub-4 meter SUV from Maruti Suzuki will most probably be the Jimny; however, the launch is not confirmed as stated by MSIL.

However, there have been reports previously that talked about the launch of the 5-door Jimny in India by 2023 by MSIL.

As per reports, Maruti Suzuki might also bring back diesel cars in the country; the company will fit the Brezza and the Ertiga with the BSVI compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine in 2021. There is also the possibility that the next generation Brezza will be based on the modified version of the existing Global C platform which will be above the new generation Vitara. 

MSIL To Use Toyota Raize’s DNGA?

Reports have also said that the MSIL will be using the Toyota Raize’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture), which will underpin a new midsized SUV.

The compact SUV will be employing the existing 1.5L K15B petrol engine and the company might be introducing a new 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine in order to avail excise benefits. However, this is still under development.

Also, Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno based crossover, which is codenamed YTB, will probably be launched in the second half of 2022. MSIL aims to reduce the production costs and the time spent to develop a brand new engine by using the Baleno platform. This new model will most probably be fitted with  Suzuki’s 1.2L petrol engine. This engine is also the one that powers the Baleno hatchback.
