Air India offers a 50% concession on base fare of flight tickets for senior citizens.

State-owned carrier Air India has announced a special scheme for senior citizens, which will offer them a concession of 50% on the base fare.

However, as per the official website, there is a given set of criteria for citizens allowed to avail this offer.

Let’s learn about this in detail.

Conditions for Availing 50% Offer

Air India will offer a 50% concession on base fare to senior citizens over the age of 60.

Not just that, the scheme is only applicable to domestic flights.

The offer claimed by Air India clearly mentions, “A senior citizen of Indian Nationality, permanently residing in India and should have attained the age of 60 years on the date of commencement of journey”.

A concession of 50% on “basic fare on select booking classes in Economy cabin” is available, as per the official text of the Air India offer.

The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also clarified that ‘base fare’ does not include only the total amount of the flight ticket.

Instead, a potential airfare will also include the airline fuel charge, common user terminal fee, passenger service fees, airport and/ or user development fees taxes, and any other applicable convenience charges.

Carry Valid ID, Else Boarding Denied

The suitable passenger must purchase the ticket three days prior to the date of travel, while the offer on it shall be valid for a year.

At the time of booking their ticket, the passenger can use any valid Photo ID with date of birth on it, to avail the discount offer.

This document could be their voter’s ID card, passport, driving license, or the individual’s ID card issued by Air India.

Consequently, at the time of check in or boarding gate, the passenger will have to produce the same/relevant ID/documents.

The website mentions, “In case the relevant ID/documents are not presented at the time of check-in or at the boarding gate, the basic fare will be forfeited and the tickets will become non-refundable, only taxes & levies will be refunded.”

Additionally, boarding too shall be denied if the identity proof is not provided at the time of check in and at the boarding gate.

These concessions are applicable on Air India operated flights and Alliance Air codeshare flights. These concessions are not applicable on Regional connectivity Alliance Air codeshare flights and AirIndia Express codeshare Domestic flights.
