Swiggy has recently announced the expansion of its “Street Food Vendors” programme to 125 new cities. This expansion will be conducted under the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s Atmanibhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme.
Read on to find out all the details about this new plan of Swiggy.
Swiggy To Extend “Street Food Vendors” Programme To 36000 New People
Swiggy, one of the very popular online food delivery platforms, will now be extending the “Street Food Vendors” programme to 36000 people in 125 new cities. These 125 cities will be Tier 2 cities.
In collaboration with Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNibhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme, Swiggy has announced that a team will be in charge of exploring and identifying street vendors on the platform.
Additionally, the food delivery platform has also created a special destination on the app. This will help the customers discover their favourite street food vendors.
A pilot was conducted to test out this project in Ahmedabad, Varanasi, Chennai, Delhi and Indore with the help of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. 300 street vendors were onboarded as a part of the pilot project which was declared successful.
Swiggy To Be First Food Delivery Platform To Collaborate with The Government
Swiggy is now the first food delivery platform to collaborate with the Government. The press release states, “At the time of onboarding, all vendors are registered with FSSAI. Swiggy will then facilitate a Food Safety Training and Certification in partnership with FSSAI and their empanelled partners.”
The PM SVANidhi or Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi scheme was launched on June 1, 2020. The intention behind this project launched by the ministry of housing and urban affairs was to help street vendors who were severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown.
Under this scheme, capital loans will be provided up to Rs. 10,000 at a subsidised rate of interest. There will be a 7% interest subsidy on timely or early repayment of the loan. Also, street vendors will be allowed to repay the loan in monthly instalments in one year.
Swiggy will be conducting virtual one-on-one training and train the street vendors process of accepting, preparing, and fulfilling orders on the platform and make sure there is no compromise on consumer experience.
