All Rail Passengers Need To Register Their Mobile Number For Booking Tickets; How To Check Train Status On Whatsapp?

The Indian Railways have been making several changes and adding layers of protection to the travelling system, amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

It rolled out about 196 pairs, or 392 Festival Special trains from October 20 to November 30, in order to facilitate travel in the festive season, without putting the load on the already operating lines, thereby reducing concentration in any given route/train.

During the same period, the Railway Protection Force of Indian Railways also issued a set of compulsory guidelines for travelers, to strongly keep a check on transmission of the virus.

IRCTC has now reported a new update, as per which passengers of the Indian Railways must now register their own contact numbers, while booking the train ticket(s), instead of using agent’s number or under any other case.

Register Your Own Phone Numbers

Indian Railways has reported that as some travelers book their train tickets through an agent or someone else’s IRCTC accounts, their (own) phone numbers do not get registered in the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) system.

Consequently, these passengers fail to receive any update on the train details or running status or cancellations, via text messages on their numbers, creating unnecessary hassle for the traveler.

Keeping this in mind, the Indian Railways issued a new update, as per which all railway passengers are requested to register their own mobile number only as the sole contact number.

This is done so that they can receive every update regarding the train’s status or timings, directly on their mobile phones, thereby getting the best of benefits provided by the national carrier.

Passengers can Get Train Status on Whatsapp Now

Interestingly, passengers of the Indian Railways can now receive their train details, including the real-time PNR status and other train journey related information, on their Whatsapp too.

We have illustrated the steps for you to check your train journey details on Whatsapp.

• You will have to start by updating your Whatsapp application on your Android or iOS enabled phone.
• Once you are done with updating the application, save the Railofy’s train enquiry number: ‘+91-9881193322’ on your mobile phone. This will add the number on your Whatsapp list.
• Next, open Whatsapp (on your phone) and send your 10 digit PNR number to this Railofy contact, which will now be on your contact list.
• Once you send your PNR number on this contact, Railofy will keep updating you with the real-time status of your train on your Whatsapp.
