  • The Option Of Courses In Mother Tongue To Be Offered From The Next Academic Session.
  •  NTA To Devise a Different Syllabus For Competitive Exams

In a meeting chaired by Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal, the Education Ministry has finally decided to take a step forward in the direction of the new National Education Policy (NCP) that promotes education in one mother in one’s mother tongue.

On Thursday, 26 November, the ministry of education disclosed  that Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and National Institute of Technology (NIT) will provide engineering courses in mother tongue from the beginning of the academic session 2021-22.

“A seminal decision was made to start technical education, especially engineering courses, imparting education in mother tongue (and this) will be opened from next academic year. A few IITs and NITs are being shortlisted for the same,” a senior officer from the ministry said.

Which institutes will offer this option?

IIT Banaras Hindu University BHU is the first institute chosen by the ministry to start offering engineering courses in Hindi.

“For now we have zeroed down on IIT BHU to start engineering courses in mother tongue. More institutes — IITs and NITs, will be shortlisted for the purpose in the coming days,” the ministry stated.

The endeavours started from IIT BHU because its foundation is strongly based on Hindi. Some other institutes will be selected after a meeting of All India Council of technical education (AICTE) and institutes like IIT and NIT with the Ministry of Education.

What other changes are going to be adopted?

Considering the changes happening in the school education system recently, the National testing Agency (NTA) has decided to come out with a different syllabus for competitive exams. It has become extremely necessary to evaluate the current condition of school education boards since even national boards like CBSE and CISCE, had to compromise with their exam syllabus as there has been a significant academic loss due to schools being closed since March.

“The University Grants Commission has also been directed to ensure all scholarships, fellowships are disbursed in time and to start a helpline for the same and address all grievances of the students immediately,” the official said.

It was earlier announced that NTA is going to increase the number of languages in which the JEE Mains (Joint Entrance Exam)  is conducted.  The agency  is going to include 9 more regional languages apart from Hindi and English from 2021. Moreover it isn’t decided if JEE Advance will be offered in any regional language.

This initiative by the Education ministry is definitely going to make a difference for the students who have done their primary education from a local language medium.
