While domestic air traffic grew by 650% in the last 8 months, flights to Australia starts from December, under phase 7 of Vande Bharat Mission.

Domestic Air Traffic Rise By 650%

While speaking with media during Indian School of Business’s Deccan Dialogue event, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has assured that the domestic flight volume will return to pre-Covid level by December-end.

His statement is based on hard facts: When Govt allowed domestic flights to resume in May, 2020, Govt allowed only 30,000 passengers per day.

2 days before Diwali, 2.25 lakh passengers flew by domestic airlines, which is an increase of 650%.

The Minister said that right now, domestic flights are at 70% occupancy level, which will increase to 80%, and then become same as pre-Covid era occupancy.

Minister Puri said,  “I have already told my colleagues to look at 80 per cent. I am confident that by December 31, or soon thereafter (week or two into January) we will return to pre-COVID levels,

This is indeed a big assurance from the Minister, which provides a ray of hope to those who are in the travel and tourism industry.

New Flights To Australia Starts

Meanwhile, under Vande Bharat’s phase 7 mission, AIr India will start new flights to and from Australia. This means that now more and more Indians can come back from Australia, and fly to Australia, without any trouble.

Since there are no air bubbles between Australia and India, this is an important development.
