The new president of America will be introducing some new changes to the H-1b visa rules; and this is good news!

The newly elected President Joe Biden along with the vice president Kamala Harris is planning to revoke the rules that were imposed by the Trump administration.

Read on to find out what will change!

Biden Government To Reverse Trump Government’s Move Of Revoking Visa of Spouses Of H-1B

President Joe Biden will be reversing the move of the Trump administration which revoked the work permits given to spouses of H-1b visa holders.

The Biden administration is also planning to increase the number of high-skilled visas, which includes the H-1b visa. Additionally, the government is also planning to remove the limit on employment-based visas by country. This will also help clear the “unacceptably long backlogs.”

As per reports, this is a part of the immigration reforms that the Biden administration is expected to introduce. However, its now known if all these reforms will be carried out in one go or gradually.

A policy document by the Biden campaign states, “High skilled temporary visas should not be used to disincentivise recruiting workers already in the US for in-demand occupations. An immigration system that crowds out high-skilled workers in favour of only entry level wages and skills threatens American innovation and competitiveness.”

Number of H-1V Visas To Be Increased; No Cap On STEM PhD Graduates

As per the document, Biden will be working with the Congress to reform temporary visas first. This will establish an allocation process and enforcement mechanisms that will make sure to be aligned with the labour market and not used to undermine wages. After this, the Biden administration will be expanding the number of high skilled visas allocated.

As per reports, the Biden administration will be working with Congress to increase the number of visas issued for permanent, employment-based immigration.

The Biden administration will be exempting recent graduates of PhD programmes in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields in the United States from any cap.

As per the policy, “Biden believes that foreign graduates of a US doctoral programme should be given a green card with their degree and that losing these highly trained workers to foreign economies is a disservice to our own economic competitiveness.”

A lot of immigrants, especially Indians were badly affected by the irrational moves and laws imposed by the Trump Government, and the new reforms will definitely be welcomed.
