Mumbai Local Will Start Soon; Govt Proposes These Time Slots For Passengers

After seven months of Covid lockdown, now the state government has written to the national transporter, Indian Railways to restart the local train services for the general public.

Resumption Of Local Services For General Public

If we talk about Mumbai, the first thing that comes to mind is their local network.

The next question comes, when they will start the services again for the general public as it is termed as the lifeline of the film city.

Now the services are restarting but in a staggered manner to maintain social distancing. 

Earlier only the essential service providers were allowed to travel.

Now with the operations starting for the general public, they have asked for different slots for both categories of travelers.

The government has asked for separate time slots for those authorized to travel till now and peak hours slots only for the essential service providers.

So far, the government has not announced the desired date and has left it to the railways to work out the modalities.

Although the services are most likely to be resumed from the first week of November. 

In the same regards, the state government has submitted a proposal to the railway authorities.

This will allow the general public to travel by local trains during non-peak hours, On Wednesday. 

What Are The TImings For Travel?

While reopening the operations, to avoid overcrowding and also ensure that the coronavirus guidelines are adhered to, the proposal suggested a set of time slots.

Now, anyone with a valid ticket or pass will be able to travel via a local train.

The timings are between the first service and 7.30 am, 11 am to 4.30 pm and from 8 pm to the last service, according to the proposal.

While the 8.30 am to 10.30 am and 5 pm to 7.30 pm time slots will be reserved for people engaged in essential services and hold a QR code for travel.

Apart from this, there will also be a provision for a special train for women commuters only which will frequent every hour.

Currently, in the Mumbai Suburban section, Railways are running 1,410 special suburban services with a total carrying capacity of approx. 9,80,000.

In the meantime, Indian Railways has announced that it will operate 392 special trains for the upcoming festive season.
