Indian multinational information technology services and consulting company, HCL Technologies, will be hiring as much as 12,000 freshers. This has been confirmed by VV Apparao, Chief Human Resources Officer of the company.

He said, “We are now doing a bottom-up exercise in terms of the amount of fresher intake that we have to do (for next year). We are going through that review process. I think it would take four weeks before we can finalize that.”

He also said that the count will not be lesser than what it is this year. The count of 10000 to 12000 will be maintained for next year as well.

Up until now, HCL Technologies has hired 3,000 freshers and is also expecting another 9000 to be onboarded in the next two quarters.

The hiring cycle of HCL Technologies is from January to May, but due to the unexpected pandemic outbreak and the lockdown hampered the companies’ plans to hire freshers from their campuses.

HCL Tech’s Plans Of Lateral Hiring; Looking For These Skills

HCL Tech has recorded the highest-ever deal pipeline in the quarter that ended September 2020, which means that the company will be preferring lateral hiring.

The lateral hiring plans will include a combination of skills in new-age technologies and generic skills, such as the basic knowledge of software development like coding, testing.

Apparao said, “Generic skills are available in the market and you don’t have to train them. It could be entry level, mid-level and slightly above junior level at competitive price points.”

As per Apparao, Mode 2 (new generation services) kind of skills in the areas of digital, analytics, cloud, cybersecurity, IoT (Internet of Things) are not available in the market.

These skills are priced very high when available and the lead time taken to join the firm is more, which results in the company losing project opportunities. This is why the company has also given a boost to its reskilling programme in order to find some solution to such issues.
