What Exactly Happened?

Two years ago, Ram Kumar Das joined Minda Corporations Limited in Greater Noida through a contractor. Last year in June, he allegedly got himself enrolled in the same company again through a different contractor, police said.

In mid-October of 2020, after over a year, the firm found out about the fraudulence and approached the police.

Over 800 employees work in the company and using this to his advantage Das committed the fraud.

Nirankar Singh, assistant manager (HR-Minda Corporations Limited) filed a complaint at the Sector Ecotech III police station on Thursday.

Bhuvnesh Kumar, station house officer, Ecotech III police station, said “A case has been registered against the suspect under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. The suspect was arrested from the company premises the same day. He was produced in court and sent to judicial custody.”

How Did Das Execute This?

The complainant in the FIR stated that the alleged used to mark his biometric attendance via two different fingers for his two different work profiles. He added that Das was getting a double salary for over a year.

Singh stated in the FIR, “In March 2020, the company replaced the biometric attendance with the card system due to health safety protocols due to Covid-19. The suspect, meanwhile, got two cards made through two contractors, and started marking his attendance using them on two different machines.”

Recently, the company had installed a face detector at the entrance. To avoid face detection in the machine, Das approached the first contractor and got his photo approved in the machine, said Bhuvnesh Kumar, station house officer, Ecotech III police station.

In addition, the station officer said, “The suspect then went to the second contractor for the same process, and the system detected his photo, which had already been fed into the database. Suspecting fraud, the contractor alerted the company’s management.”

When interrogated, the suspect allegedly confessed to have marked attendance through a double identity.

Besides his salary, the suspect defrauded the company of Rs 81,715, the company found out during the audit.
