Union Health Minister Confirms Vaccines For COVID-19 By July 2021
Union health minister Harsh Vardhan announced a new realistic plan for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. He said that by July 2021, India will get and use 400 to 500 million doses.
As per reports, the minister has also said that this timeline for July is not applicable for all people. Only 20-25 crore people will be getting the vaccine in the third quarter of next year.
We all know that the human trials of the vaccine are underway but several experts on the matter have opined that the actual rollout of the same will be by 2021.
Medical Staff To Receive The Vaccine First; Priority Lists To Be Made
Also, the Central Government has directed states to send the lists of priority population who will receive the vaccine shots first, which will include all the medical staff, such as doctors, nurses, health care staff, ASHA workers, etc.
Previously, the centre had also said that the cost of the vaccine will not be an issue. Those who need the vaccine will be given the vaccine first.
Corporates might be allowed by the Centre to get vaccines directly from the manufacturer. However, states have been directed not to sign any deal with manufacturers as the entire process is being looked over by the Centre.
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories have already asked permission from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), to conduct the third phase of the human clinical trials. They have also made an agreement with Russia’s sovereign wealth fund for trial and distribution of Sputnik V.
Russia has already registered its vaccine, being the first in the world to do so. While there are some institutes in India who are working on developing the vaccines, our country will also be outsourcing the vaccines from outside.
