For the 1st time ever, Indian Railways will be running ‘Clon’ trains, in some specific routes.

What exactly are clone trains? What are the rules of booking tickets for these clone trains?

What Are Clone Trains?

Clone trains are the clones or copy of the already operational trains, which are running across the cities under special arrangement by Indian Railways. 

There are 310 trains right now running, which are special trains, and not scheduled ones. 

Out of these, 40 trains will be ‘cloned’ and run on the same routes, as that of the original trains.

Why Clone Trains?

The purpose is to assist waitlisted passengers get confirmed tickets, via Clone trains. Say, Mumbai Delhi Rajdhani special is running full, and there is a long list of waitlisted tickets. In this case, a clone will be created for this train, and all wait listed passengers will be converted into confirmed passengers.

How Soon Can I Book Tickets In A Clone Train?

Unlike other trains whose advance booking period is 60 days, clone trains will have an advance booking period of only 10 days.

In a statement, Railways said, “Considering the huge demand for travel on specific routes, Ministry of Railways has decided to run 20 pairs of Clone Special trains from 21.09.2020. These clone trains will run on notified timings and will be fully reserved trains. The stoppages shall be limited to operational halts,”

Which Stoppages Will Be Included In Clone Trains?

No, the normal stoppages will not be present. Clone trains will have less stoppages, and the booking of the tickets will only happen if any stoppage is present.
