Railways Ban Blankets In AC Coaches Forever; Disposable Bedsheets To Be Provided
If you are used to travel in AC coaches, then the experience of getting clean, white-colored bedsheets fresh out of laundry and cozy blankets will be a thing of past.
Indian Railways has announced that passengers of AC coaches will never get bedsheets, and blankets, ever. Even after coronavirus pandemic ends, and things are normalized.
What is the reason behind this? And what is the alternative?
No Blankets, Bedsheets Ever For AC Passengers
During a media interaction, Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav has declared that Railways will ban blankets forever.
Even after Covid-19 ends, no blankets will be provided. Passengers can bring their own blankets, if they wish so.
And, the normal washable bedsheets will be also stopped.
Instead, disposable bedsheets will be provided to AC passengers. The decision has already been taken, and formalities are remaining now to execute this.
Vinod Kumar Yadav said, “We have decided to give a single-use bed to the passengers or the passengers can carry their own bedsheets and blankets even after the pandemic subsides. For this, a detailed policy has been formulated and a decision has been taken,”
What Is The Reason?
The primary reason here is maintaining hygiene for all passengers.
As we had reported earlier, Indian Railways is not able to wash the blankets daily, and often the same blankets are provided to other passengers, which have been already used.
This was revealed by Railways in March, when cases of coronavirus was picking up.
This is the reason that blankets and bedsheets have been stopped as now, for the special trains which are running now.
But this system of not giving blankets will be extended post-Covid as well, and passengers of AC coaches will be compelled to bring their own blankets.
The concept of disposable bedsheets also sounds promising, and is complete hygienic and safe as well.
We are awaiting more details in this regard.
