Poco M2 or Poco M2 Pro, which Poco smartphone to pick as your everyday driver? Poco unveiled its latest smartphone, Poco M2 after launching Poco X3 globally. Poco’s last release in India was the budget-focused mid-range Poco M2 Pro, and the new Poco M2 is a toned-down version of the Pro model.

Design, Display: Poco M2 vs Poco M2 Pro

Starting with the design language, Poco M2 has a plastic body with an ergonomic build. The device comes with a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display offering 1080p resolution. In comparison, Poco M2 Pro has a similar design as the already available Redmi Note 9 Pro series in India.

The device dons a glass back with dualtone finish of either black, green or grey. The device has a textured finish on the lower side.

As the Redmi Note 9 Pro series, Poco M2 Pro comes with a similar 6.67-inch LCD display with 60Hz refresh rate. 

There’s a Poco branding down with “48MP Quad camera” written above the camera module. It features P2i coating which makes it splash proof. Poco M2 is IP53 certified.

The Poco M2 design is much similar to Poco M2 Pro featuring a two-tone pattern design. Poco M2 has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. Poco M2 also sports P2i coating on top to make it splash-proof.

Hardware, Storage: Poco M2 vs Poco M2 Pro

Under the hood, Poco M2 packs in a budget MediaTek Helio G80 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM offering up to 128GB of storage. Memory on Poco M2 can be expanded to 512GB with an external MicroSD card. Poco M2 has a dedicated microSD card slot with dual-band WiFi connectivity and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Poco M2 Pro runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G coupled with Adreno 618 GPU. The new Poco smartphone will have 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB storage with support for expandable storage.

In terms of day to day performance, both Poco M2 Pro will have advantage, but there won’t be any issue with Poco M2’s performance. 

Gaming on Poco M2 Pro will obviously be smoother. 720G share almost similar features and specs as its original Snapdragon 730 with segmented CPU configuration, GPU and connectivity options. In terms of daily use you won’t find any noticeable difference.

Software, UI: Poco M2 Pro vs Poco M2

For MIUI 12 lovers there’s some good news. Poco M2 has MIUI 12 running out-of-the-box. The new MIUI 12 offers improved animations, visuals, unlocking speeds, app switches, enhanced control in landscape mode and more. The UI comes loaded with features and bloatware, and delivers a clean performance as any other non-stock device.

Poco M2 Pro runs on the latest Android 10 with MIUI 11 out-of-the-box with a special Poco launcher on top. MIUI 12 Poco M2 Pro will be soon rolled out.

Cameras: Poco M2 vs Poco M2 Pro

Both the Poco smartphones come with rear quad camera systems. Poco M2 features a quad camera set-up at the back. The four camera system comprises of a primary 13-megapixel sensor, 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, 5-megapixel macro lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

At the back, Poco M2 Pro with the quad rear camera setup has the 48-megapixel as main shooter, an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle, 5-megapixel macro and 2-megapixel depth sensor.

Both the smartphones will be able to capture good great shots in daylight or where there’s ample amount of lighting. The colours are going to be more accurate with proper white balance playing the role, thanks to the 48MP camera sensor on Poco M2 Pro. The Pro model definitely has a better camera here.

Battery, Fast Charging: Poco M2 Pro vs Poco M2

Finally, coming to the battery, the new Poco M2 houses a  5,000mAh battery. Poco M2 supports 18W fast charging technology, and ships with the fast charging 18W adapter inside the box. Similarly, the Poco M2 Pro also houses a  5,000mAh battery supporting 33W fast charging technology.

Poco M2 Pro charging time from 0 percent to 100 percent is around 60 minutes. Poco M2 charging time will vary between 100 to 110 minutes.

Pricing, Availability: Poco M2 vs Poco M2 Pro

Poco M2 price in India starts at Rs 13,999. Poco M2 Pro will be available in two storage options in India: the base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at Rs 13,999. The mid-end Poco M2 Pro variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at Rs 14,999. 

Finally, the top-end Poco M2 Pro variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 16,999.

Poco M2 Pro will come in three different color options: Out of the blue, Green and greener and Two shades of black.

Poco M2 has been launched in India two storage variants. Poco M2 colour variants include: Pitch Black, Slate Blue and Brick Red. Poco M2 base model comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage. Poco M2 price in India starts at Rs 10,999 for the 64GB model. Poco M2 Flipkart availability has been confirmed as well.

The higher-end Poco M2 is priced at Rs 12,499 offering 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Poco M2 sale starts on September 15 via Flipkart.
