FASTags Can Be Mandatory For All Cars, Trucks, Buses From This Date: Penalty If No FASTag Found

And at last, FASTags will be mandatory.

Govt has proposed making FASGags mandatory for all 4-wheelers in India, which will include cars, buses and trucks.

Infact, there will be provisions for heavy penalty and challan, in case any 4-wheers is found without any FASTags.

FASTags To Be Mandatory For All 4-Wheelers?

As per reports coming in, Ministry of Transport and Roadways has suggested to make FASTags mandatory for all 4-wheelers in India.

As per the proposal, FASTags will be compulsory from January 1st, 2021, that is next year onwards.

FASTags are rechargeable tags, which allow automatic deduction of toll charges from a vehicle, and is completely cashless. 

The concept of FASTags is developed and maintained by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and last year, FASTags were offered for free to all motorists for mass usage. 

FASTags are first introduced in 2014, and in usage across 500 national highways. More than 55 lakh 4-wheelers are already using FASTags as of September, 2019.

Penalty if You Don’t Have FASTags

As per the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Transport, there will be amendments made in the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989, for imposing penalty on those 4-wheelers which doesn’t have a FASTag.

A senior Road Transport official said, “All existing four wheelers will need to have FASTag. It will be a penal offence under CMVR. One can be challaned for that,”

The rule for mandatory FASTags will be applicable for type M and N vehicles, which are 4-wheelers designed and in use for passengers and goods, both. 

Hence, all cars, buses and trucks will come under this provision of compulsory FASTags.

New rule will also make in mandatory to have FASTags while renewing 3rd party insurance, and for buying all new vehicles.

Last monht, Govt has already made it mandatory for all 4-wheelers to have FASTags if they wish to avail any discount on the toll fee.
