Work From Home Employees Save Rs 60,000, 432 Hours/Year: Find Out How?

As per a survey conducted by Awfis, a co-working firm, an average working professional in India is saving about Rs 3,000 to 5,000 per month due to working from home.

What Are The Statistics?

Awfis conducted the survey between June and July across seven metros and 1000 samples.

According to the Awfis ‘Work From Home’ Readiness survey, 74% of the respondents are willing to work remotely, and 80% emphasized that their jobs can be performed from a remote environment.

In normal circumstances, on average an employee spends 17% of his/her salary on the commute, food, clothing, and more. This means around Rs 5,520 will be saved per month and Rs 60,000 per year working from home.

Around 60% waste more than an hour commuting to and from office. Hence, working from home is saving around 1.5 hours of an employee’s time which translates to 44 additional working days a year. Amit Ramani, founder and CEO of Awfis said, “This means that for a company with 100 employees, 18 FTE (full-time equivalent) days are added without any additional cost.”

As per the survey, 27% see isolation, and 23% of respondents see work-life balance as the biggest challenge when working from home.

Many feel a lack of opportunities for networking and engaging with colleagues might impact their creativity. Some respondents felt low internet speed might also impact productivity. 

47% of the respondents reported a lack of comfortable working station and 71 % felt that they will be successful in working from home if they have a dedicated area to work.

The report says, “In a highly price and cost-sensitive country like India, the savings done by working from home is a major factor in the acceptance of this change.”

Saving on commute time and saving office expenses like food, clothing as well as commute has encouraged people to embrace work from home.

Furthermore, the report said, “Going forward, a hybrid model will be adopted which will be a blend of virtual and physical environments. Workplace will be distributed across physical headquarters, satellite offices, cafes and homes. A permanent work from home settlement would mean a fortnightly or monthly visit to the physical headquarters.”
