Professions Drawing The Highest Salary On H1B
As per the recent discovery of the data from h1bdata.info, in the medical field, highly-skilled immigrant doctors are compensated pretty handsomely in the US.
With these new findings, the specialists who are getting the highest paychecks are in interventional cardiology, a subset of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter-based treatment of heart diseases.
On average, such specialists are drawing over $425,000 (Rs 3.1 crore) each year.
While, Gastroenterologists, who are specialized doctors who study the organs of the digestive system or the gastrointestinal (GI) tract of the human beings, hold the second position with an average annual salary upwards of $400,000.
Reason Behind The Demand
Considering 2020 data, Facebook and Google have offered the highest salaries of up to $2 million to some individuals this year.
With these recent findings, it seems that similar to the technical skills gap, the medicine industry in the United States also has some gaps.
According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, the US is expected to experience a shortage of up to 1,22,000 physicians by 2032.
This figure shows the growing demand and also the reason for offering the highest average salaries drawn by H-1B employees from healthcare players.
Here it is noteworthy to point out that these scores of immigrant doctors are on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Apart from that, the US has also relaxed some of the rigid location and employer specifications for H-1B visa-holders to make it easier for immigrant physicians to service patients via telemedicine.
This has also helped in reducing the overburdening of the facilities.
But still, they are not yet safe in the US as most of this workforce is at the mercy of the Donald Trump administration.
For some time, it has been working on cracking down on the H-1B program with new orders and policies to discourage foreign workers.
Most of these workers are worried about their families because if they fall sick or die while serving the patients, their dependent family members will have to face the deportation immediately.
