World’s Tallest Railway Bridge To Be Constructed Over Chenab River In Jammu And Kashmir

The world’s highest railway bridge will be constructed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district and will be 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower. This bridge is being built over the Chenab river and is estimated to be completed on 15 August 2022.

It will reportedly connect the Kashmir valley with Katra in Jammu and the rest of the country as well. This bridge will definitely help reduce the time of the Journey between Katra and Shrinagar by 5-6 hours.

The total length of the world’s highest railway bridge is 1.3 km long and it will be built to survive an earthquake that measures more than 7 on the Richter scale. As per reports, the bridge will have a central span of 467 meters and will be built at a height of 359 meters from the sea level. The Eiffel Tower is just 35 meters shorter at 324 meters, whereas the Qutub Minar in Delhi is 72 meters in height.

Project To Come With A Helipad; Will Generate Employment, Boost Economy

As per Indu Kanwal Chib (KAS), Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, this bridge is unique and will also come with a Helipad. He said that people from Delhi will be able to come through a chopper.

He also said that the project will generate local employment and boost the local economy.

As revealed by the Deputy Chief Engineer RR Malik, who is also the product manager, the deadline for this project has been set to 2022. He said that given the geography in which the bridge is being built, it is not an easy job.

The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited is in charge of developing this project. Also, this bridge will be a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
