In a positive development, Govt of India and Ministry of Home Affairs have hinted that Delhi Metro can be resumed from September 1st.

However, all schools and colleges will remain shut under the next wave of Unlock movement.

Delhi Metro Can Start From September 1st?

An unnamed official from Ministry Of Home Affairs has revealed that Govt can start Delhi Metro from September 1st, which was closed since March 23rd due nation-wide lockdown.

As per the official, in case Delhi Metro is resumed, then there will be only 50% occupancy allowed, and strict enforcement of social distancing and hygiene among all passengers.

Union Minister Hardeep Puri has already hinted that talks are on with Delhi Metro officials, and they are ready to operate at a notice of 2 days,

On Monday, he said, “The hard facts are DMRC MD Mangu Singh and Metro have been ready to operate the services for about two months now. I periodically talk to him.”

Around 30 lakh passengers used Delhi Metro daily, till March 22 when it was stopped due to the lockdown. Rs 9 crore daily revenues from the ticket sales used to happen.

But now, Delhi Metro is facing financial troubles, and salaries and allowances of more than 12,000 employees have been cut.

Schools, Colleges, Cinemas Will Remain Shut

As per the unnamed official from Home Ministry, although Delhi Metro can be allowed to operate, all schools, colleges, cinemas etc will remain closed, even as Unlock phase is underway.

He said, “The government is also not yet in favour of re-opening multiplexes because of the closed environment, and swimming pools,”.

These places will remain closed for atleast September:

Entertainment parks

Theatres

Cinemas

Bars

Auditoriums,

Assembly halls

All events and gatherings related to social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions and other large congregations are also banned.
