Tata Group Will Launch ECommerce SuperApp In India

Chairman of $113 billion Tata Group: N Chandrasekaran has confirmed that their company will launch an ecommerce superapp, and directly enter the cut-throat ecommerce segment in India.

Confirming this, N Chandrasekaran said, “It will be a super app, a lot of apps in apps and so on?.?.?.?We have a very big opportunity.”

Explaining the vision behind this idea, he said that Tata Group’s new super app will target their millions of daily users, and then usher them into the digital space.

It seems that like Reliance, Tata will aim to leverage their offline presence, and convert the same into an online experience.

He said, “The Tata Group, depending upon how you count, touches several hundred millions of consumers in India, if you take consumers who are walking in everyday into a Tata facility … How do we give a simple online experience connecting all of this, and at the same time a beautiful omnichannel experience??.?.?.?That is the vision,”

How Will This Super app Work?

As per the available reports, Tata Group’s new superapp will offer these services:

  • Food and grocery ordering
  • Fashion and lifestyle
  • Consumer durables
  • Insurance and financial services
  • Healthcare
  • Bill payments like mobile, DTH, Gas, and more

As of now, Tata Group has a very minuscule online presence for direct retail and selling, and if this super-app is indeed launched, then it will be their biggest foray into the online space.

Right now, Tata has Tata CLiQ, which is a fashion and lifestyle shopping app; StarQuik which is a grocery shopping app available in selected cities  and online electronics platform Croma, which mainly operates in the offline space.

Once launched, Tata Group’s superapp will directly compete against Reliance’ JioMart, which has become India’s #1 grocery app and Amazon, which is world’s biggest ecommerce platform and Walmart-owned Flipkart, which is world’s biggest offline retailer.

Intense competition, we are about to experience!
