World’s Tallest Pier Bridge To Be Constructed In Manipur, North East Of India

The Northeast Frontier Railway Construction Organisation will be constructing the tallest pier bridge in the world in the North-Eastern state of Manipur, near Noney. This bridge is a part of a Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal new broad gauge rail line project of the Indian Railways and this rail line is 111 kilometers long.

The project has caught speed recently as it is a National Project. 

This bridge is a part of the Indian Railways’ efforts to make sure the transportation of people living in remote areas, and traveling from one place to another is a huge issue.

Also, there are about 45 tunnels in this rail line project. The Northeast Frontier Railway zone has stated that Tunnel Number 12 will be 10.280 kilometers long and will be the longest tunnel in the Northeast.

Tallest Pier Bridge With Heigh 141 Metres; Piers To Be Constructed With Hydraulic Augers

This pier bridge will be built across the valley of river Ijai near Noney and the height of the pier is set to be 141 meters, exceeding the current tallest pier bridge height, 139 meters. The length of the bridge will be 703 meters and the bridge’s piers have been constructed with hydraulic augers. 

A senior railway official has stated, “The tall piers needed specially designed ‘slip-form technique’ to ensure efficient and continual construction.” 

He also said that ‘self erecting’ electric lifts will help in the conveyance of workers and materials to the top in a safe and speedy manner. As per the official, the speed girders are prefabricated in sections and then erected at the site through the Cantilever launching scheme.
