The OTT platform Netflix has come up with a new trial and test subscription model, which will turn out to be a handful for mobile subscribers.

Let’s throw more light on the subject.

The American OTT platform has decided to unveil a new low-cost subscription plan for mobile the third largest economy of Asia, as it bags a mushrooming population of subscribers on its platform from the region.

Netflix’s Low Subscription Model

Netflix has launched a ‘Mobile+’ plan for some new and existing subscribers in India.

This plan, priced at Rs 349, will be low-cost subscription plan, which will allow the Indian subscribers to stream content n in high-definition (HD) quality.

The content can be viewed on mobile, tablet and computer screens but not on Television.

This plan comes after Netflix launched its ‘mobile-only’ in the country, priced at Rs 200.

It allows users to access the platform only through mobile phones and lowers the streaming quality to standard definition (480p).

Netflix’s Mobile-Only Plan

Netflix’s traditional monthly subscription starts from Rs 499/month. This restricts streaming quality to standard definition.

The other subscription plan goes as high as 799 Indian rupees and allows simultaneous viewing upto 4 users and the streaming is enabled at ultra-high definition (4K).

The Mobile Plan, on the other hand, was launched in India, with the view of letting those users access the platform, who use smartphones to access OTT content.

Netflix in India

Netflix has over three dozen on-demand streaming services competitors in the Indian market. They include global rivals like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Disney+ Hotstar, all of which are aggressively priced.

In an earnings call earlier this year, a company executive said Netflix was “working really hard to try and make our offering in India more competitive, more attractive to members and members-to-be, and there’s a bunch of different product features we’ve been doing.”

Netflix said that it had kept aside $420 mill last year for producing and licensing content in India by the end of 2020.
