Cognizant Slowly Ends Work From Home In These Cities; 3.6 Lakh Workers Return To Pune Factories

IT major Cognizant now wants their IT employees to return to offices, as work from home gradually ends in these three important cities.

Although Cognizant has informed this return to office for IT employees will be carried over in a ‘measured’ way, but the writing is clearly on the wall: Work from home almost ends for Cognizant.

Meanwhile, despite the ongoing lockdown in Pune, around 3.5 lakh workers have returned to factories.

Work FromEnd Ends For Cognizant Employees?

In their Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune offices, Cognizant has started asking employees to come to office, as they have ended the work from home for most of the employees.

As per the company, return to office is being carried on in a phased manner, depending on the business criticality. 

To start with, all the employees who are handling confidential data and contracts are being asked to return to offices now.

Officially, this is the statement from Cognizant: “We will open our offices in accordance with directives from local authorities and will continue to closely monitor the situation. Only skeleton staff will work from offices, as required. All other employees continue to work from home,”

However, they have started opening their offices, and work is returning to full mode for the employees as they are now working from offices.

In Chennai, Cognizant informed all employees: “As we take our next steps in transitioning back to the office, based on business criticality, offices in Chennai have been identified to reopen in the coming weeks.”

Cognizant has informed that only those employees’ who are delivering services “that cannot be delivered remotely because of high dependence on office infrastructure and networks, or those who have client, information security and confidentiality considerations,”

3.6 Lakh Workers Return To Pune Factories

Meanwhile Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation has revealed that around 3.6 lakh workers have no returned to their factories across 17 Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) areas of Pune region.

Ajit Deshmukh, MIDC regional officer, said, “Pune police commissioner K Venkatesham had asked the human resources department of all companies to submit details of all the employees and certify it with the respective police stations under which their companies were located. The HR managers reached out to the police station, handed over the application containing names of the employees and got the document certified. In the last four days of lockdown, there has not been a single complaint of any company regarding their employees facing issues related to travel,”

Total of 3.65 lakh workers have returned to these MIDC industrial areas:

Indapur, Kurkumbh, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan (Phase 1 to 4 ), Patas, Jejuri, Bhigawan, Talawade, Kharadi, Khed, Baramati, Ranjangaon (Phase 1 and 2), Talegaon (Phase 1 and 2), Pandare.
