Indian Railways Will Become 100% Electrified In Next 3.5 Years: World’s Biggest Clean-Green Railways!

The Indian Railways is aiming to be fully electrified in the next three and a half years, as revealed by the Union Minister Piyush Goyal.

Indian Railways To Be Fully Electric By 2030: Union Minister Piyush Goyal

Union Minister Piyush Goyal has announced that the government is working on transitioning into an international solar grid and that the Indian Railways will be fully electrified in the next three and a half years.

He said, “Railways will move to 100% electrification in next 3.5 years & 100% ‘Net Zero’ operator in next 9-10 yrs. By 2030, each one of us will be a proud citizen, owning the world’s first large ‘Clean Railways.”

He was speaking at a video conference on the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) event. 

He also talked about the Prime Minister promoting  ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid.’ India is also taking the lead in the  International Renewable Community. He also revealed that the transition to international solar grid is something that they are working on. Farmers are also being included in the renewable energy fold through the PM-KUSUM Yojana.

Target Of Electrification Set To 7000 RKM By The Year 2020-21

The Railways Ministry is also planning to implement numerous initiatives to make the railways fully electrified and transform it into ‘Green Railways’ by 2030.

The primary objective of electrifying the railways is to attain net zero carbon emission. For this purpose, the Ministry of Railways is also improving the efficiency of energy of locomotives and trains and fixed installations, green certification for installations/stations, fitting bio-toilets in coaches, and switching to renewable sources of energy.

Until now, the national transporter has completed the electrification of more than 40,000 Route kilometre (RKM), which is 63% of the total broad-gauge routes in which 18,605 electrification work has been completed during 2014-20.

The target for electrification has been set to 7000 RKM for the year 2020-21.
