Some very interesting statistics is coming in, regarding mobile sale in India during Q2 of 2020 (April, May, June).

Overall, sale of mobiles dropped by whopping 48%, compared to the same period last year.

Here is some interesting analysis.

Smartphone Sales Drop By 48%

As per data shared by Canalys on the overall mobile and smartphone sale in India, the market has declined by 48% for the Q2 of 2020, which is April, May and June months.

Compared to 33 million smartphones sold in Q2 of 2019, only 17.3 million smartphones were sold in Q2 of 2020.

The lockdown was the main reason for this massive decline, since both Amazon and Flipkart were prohibited to ship any non-essential products once the lockdown started from March 24th. Besides, all offline shops were also closed.

Although sales resumed from May, but the supply chain was disrupted, and the mobile companies found it hard to maintain their production due to labor issues, and ensuring smooth delivery of the smartphones.

Samsung Biggest Loser

If we compare the decline in the smartphone shipments, we will find that Samsung was the biggest loser: They lost 60% of the sales of their smartphones, compared to last year.

Xiaomi’s sale declined by 48%, and Vivo’s sale declined by 36%.

Realme and Oppo too suffered heavy losses, as their sales declined by 35% and 27% respectively.

Apple suffered the least loss, mainly due to their low market share of just 1% in India.

Overall, Chinese manufacturers represented 80% of the overall sale of smartphones in India during Q2.

Vivo Becomes #2 Player

Meanwhile, Vivo overtook Samsung and became 2nd biggest smartphone seller in India.

Xiaomi is still #1 with 30.9% marketshare, while Realme slipped to #5 position as Oppo was steady at #4 position.

While Xiaomi shipped 5.3 million units in Q2, Vivo sold 3.7 million smartphones, Samsung sold 2.9 million units and Oppo’s sale were 2.2 million smartphones.

Realme was able to sell only 1.7 million smartphones.
