IT Employee Union Asks Maharashtra CM For Compulsory Work From Home For 9 Lakh IT Employees

A prominent nonprofit IT employee union has requested Maharashtra CM for implementing mandatory and compulsory work from home rule for all IT employees in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile Pune District Collector can announce new rules for IT employees, as 10-day lockdown has started in the city.

Mandatory Work From Home Requested

National Information Technology Employees Senate – NITES which is devoted to the cause of IT and ITeS employees has written to Maharashtra CM for implementing compulsory work from home rule for 9 lakh IT employees in the state.

This request holds prominence, since Pune city is under a strict lockdown for 10 days starting July 13th, and we have already reported how Tech Mahindra is forcing employees to stay in Guest House during this lockdown.

By mandating work from home rules, IT employees and their families can been protected from the deadly virus, and work will also not be impacted.

In their letter to Maharashtra CM Shri Uddhav Thackeray and DM Pune, NITES said, “Hence through this letter we are seeking your prompt intervention and support to prohibit the operations IT/ITeS/BPO/KPO companies to safeguard life, jobs and families of more than 6 lakh IT/ITeS/BPO/KPO employees in Pune, Maharashtra. Considering the increasing number of patients & death rate in Pune the employees shouldn’t be forced to resume offices by the companies & should be allowed to work from home. It is our fervent hope that lives of employees & there family members would be considered & given priority while taking decisions regarding operations of IT/ITeS/BPO/KPO companies under upcoming lockdown.”

As of now, IT firms are allowed to only ask 15% of their employees to come to office, but this rule is being violated at several locations, endangering the lives of IT employees and their families.

Pune DM: New Rules Can Be Brought In For IT Employees

As Pune city is under a new lockdown starting from July 13th till July 23rd, there is some confusion regarding work from home regulations for the employees in private sector, especially IT employees.

Should 15% work from office rules will be continued?

Responding to this, Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram said to Punekar News, “Industries will not be impacted by any new order. The decision about the IT companies will be decided by Monday (July 13).”

This certainly changes the status-quo, and new guidelines for IT employes will help them with more clarity.

This is a developing story, and we will keep you updated, as more details come in.
