The Indian Army has asked its personnel to delete 89 apps from their phones, which include Facebook, Instagram, PUBG, and a lot more.

The Government of India has also recently banned about 59 apps that originated from China.

Indian Army Bans 89 Apps; Facebook, Instagram Included

The Indian Army has banned its personnel from using several apps, as much as 89, and these include popular apps such as Facebook, Instagram, Tinder, etc.

The reason behind this ban has been cited to be data leaks. We all know that social networking apps, such as Facebook and Whatsapp are quite notorious for their data leaks.

An officer said, “The directive has been issued because there has been an exponential increase in the number of military personnel being targeted online by intelligence agencies of Pakistan and China.”

However, the list has been released only for army personnel unlike the list released by the Government.

This isn’t the first time that the army has implemented a similar ban. Officers in the army were given a warning earlier this year to stop using Facebook and Whatsapp too.

There is a huge possibility that this ban may be related to the tensions between India and China. The government of India recently released a list of 59 apps that have been banned in India. Telecom operators have been told not to use Chinese equipment, and the Indian Railways has also scrapped a Rs. 741 crore deal with the country.

As per recent developments, the US army has also banned its soldiers from using Tikok too, citing the app as a cyber threat. Lt Col Robin Ochoa, a US Army spokesperson has revealed that the app will not be allowed on government phones.
