The Central Board of Secondary Education, (CBSE) has announced that the syllabus for class 9th to 12th would be reduced for the academic year 2020-2021.
Additionally, a significant portion of the class 10th syllabus has been deleted as well.

CBSE Board Reduces Class 9th And 12th Syllabus By 30%
Given the ongoing critical situation caused by the Coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown imposed across the country, studies of children have been severely impacted.
All the universities, schools and educational institutions have been shut down throughout the country since March 16 as per the orders of the countrywide classroom shutdown announced by the central government. A nationwide lockdown followed on March 25, which was recently lifted, but schools and colleges have been instructed to be closed until July 31.
Taking this into consideration, the CBSE board has announced that the syllabus for class 9 to 12 will be reduced by 30% so that the dent created by the pandemic is evened out.
Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union Minister for Human Resource Development said, “Looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country and the world, CBSE was advised to revise the curriculum and reduce course load for the students of Class 9th to 12th.”
Syllabus Rationalized To Retain Core Topics and Concepts
A statement released by the board clarifies that the syllabus has been rationalized as much as possible while retaining the core concepts, but the teachers will be expected to teach the students these topics if they are required to connect them with the other topics.
However, the board has clarified that these reduced topics won’t be a part of the Internal Assessment and year-end Board Examination.
Moreover, the teaching pedagogy will also include various strategies for transacting the curriculum as suggested by the Alternative Academic Calendar and inputs from the NCERT.
A majority of the syllabus for class 10th students has also been deleted.
