USA, Australia Will Ban TikTok Very Soon; Leaking Users’ Data To Chinese Govt Main Issue

As per reports coming in, US and Australia can ban TikTok app very soon.

Amidst rising concerns of users’ data being leaked to the Chinese Govt, TikTok is facing an uncertain future in these two big markets.

US Will Ban TikTok Very Soon

As per Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, US is about to ban TikTok, since they are stealing user data and sharing them with the Chinese Govt.

During an interaction with a TV channel, he said, “I don’t want to get out in front of the President [Donald Trump], but it’s something we’re looking at,”. And when asked when this ban can be imposed, he said that the US Govt is “taking this very seriously.”

India has already banned TikTok along with 58 other Chinese apps, and the reason is common here: Security analysts have claimed that TikTok is leaking tremendous amount of user data to the Chinese Govt, and the app poses a security threat.

As per China’s National Intelligence Law passed in 2017, Chinese Govt has full ownership and rights over the data saved and used by any Chinese company, operating anywhere in the World.

And this means that even if TikTok owners Bytedance doesn’t wish, but they will have to share users’ data with the Chinese Govt.

Australia May Also Ban TikTok

Similarly, voices have been heard in Australia, demanding a total ban on Chinese app TikTok.

An unnamed Federal MP has informed Herald Sun that very soon, an investigation will be carried on by the Govt to determine as to which extent TikTok is using and sharing users’ data with the Chinese Govt., and a decision to ban this app in their country will be taken soon after.

He said, “It might be dressed differently but it’s the same beast,”

Meanwhile, owners of TikTok: Bytedance has decided to takedown their app in Hongkong, after China implemented a strict national security law for the semi-autonomous city.
