Indian Railways Cancelling All Trains Till August 15? Full Refund For All Tickets Allowed

After resumption of the domestic flights with restrictions, now the train services are not likely to restart before mid-August as the Indian Railways have asked all zones to generate full refund of all tickets.

Why Would This Happen?

As per aTimes of India report, on Monday, the railway ministry issued a circular to all zones informing them about the decision to cancel all tickets booked on or before April 14 and also to generate full refund of the tickets.

Further, the report quoted its sources, saying more trains that may be operated to meet demand will too be branded as “special” ones, similar to 230 mails and express trains that are currently running.

So far, Indian Railways allowed the advance booking of tickets for 120 days. 

What About The Refund?

With the latest rules, now passengers don’t have to cancel tickets in case railways cancels the trains as their process will automatically initiate the full refund.

Prior to this, Railways had cancelled operation of all regular trains till June 30.

Further, the Indian Railways has decided to provide a full refund for all regular train tickets booked before or on April 14, 2020. 

So, bookings of a regular train ticket for a date 120 days after April 14, 2020, will be cancelled and the IRCTC will automatically initiate a full refund. 

Moreover, IRCTC has advised passengers to not cancel their tickets in case of cancelled trains. 

As once a train is cancelled in the system by the Indian railways, the refund is automatically processed.

Apart from that, all the regular train services were cancelled since March 25 when the lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic began. 

So, IRCTC has suspended advance reservation for regular train services from April 15.

Before this, Indian Railways were hit by malware attack from Pakistan and China and train movement data got stolen.

Moreover, a malware attacked the Indian Railways network and snooped its data for foreign countries, which includes train movements.

To worsen the situation, the national transporter keeps on getting malware security threats.

For taking a hold on the situation, the railways engineers keep on taking all precautions and frequently updating the firewalls to prevent data theft.
