As per the reports, the new Kia Sonet compact SUV is likely to be launched in India in August and the compact SUV is expected to be launched at a starting price of around Rs 8 lakh.

Kia Sonet Compact SUV Launch
Earlier this year, the Kia Sonet was unveiled during the Auto Expo 2020 and from then, it has caught the attention of enthusiasts, and promises to spice up the competition in its segment.
With the rapidly growing popularity of the Kia Seltos SUV, the speculations for an EV based on the car is inevitable as almost all manufacturers are planning to shift towards electric mobility.
The Head – Marketing and Sales at Kia Motors India, Manohar Bhat has confirmed that the launch of the car remains on track despite Covid-19-related issues.
He said “We intend to go with our pre-existing idea of launching it in the festival season irrespective of Covid issues. Our vendors, our suppliers, everyone is on track for us to come out with the vehicle in the festive season which is August-October period,”.
Kia Seltos EV Launch Leak
Meanwhile, a document titled ‘Key New Model Launches by Region’ procured by IAB confirms Kia Motor’s plans to launch the Seltos EV in the second half of 2020.
Although, calm your horses, as the document also informs that this car is only being planned for the Chinese market for now.
It is expected that the upcoming Kia Seltos EV is to be offered in two variants, a standard version, also a long-range version, and further the electric car will be launched later this year.
Moreover, the fully-electric version of the Seltos is a highly anticipated car, and will surely live up to its expectations.
Why Chinese Market?
Similar to the Indian markets, the Kia Seltos also has a huge fan following in the China market.
Due to the country’s revolutionary shift towards EVs, the carmaker has been working on developing fully-electric versions of their existing cars exclusively for this market.
They also have plans to bring them to other countries at a later date.
Currently Seltos is sold as the second-gen KX3 in China, and the country already got an EV based on the first-gen model of the said car.
That’s why, the Seltos EV will be launched to further replace the existing KX3 EV.
Where the first-gen Kia KX3 EV is a 45.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which also offers a range of about 300 km.
Further, it comes coupled to an electric motor that belts out 111 PS of maximum power and 285 Nm of peak torque.
With the new-gen KX3, it is likely to be offered in two different variants, a standard trim and a long-range version.
What About Kia Seltos EV Launch In India?
So far, there are no plans to bring the Kia Seltos EV to India and instead, the Korean carmaker is working on launching the sub-4m ‘Sonet’ SUV in the country this year.
Further, it is expected to go on to compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and its cousin, the Hyundai Venue.
The compact SUV category is currently dominated by Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza among others.
