This means that thousands of jobs can be destroyed this year.

Will Indian IT firms be impacted?

US Likely To Suspend H1B Visa For Entire 2020

Some unnamed sources have informed NPR news that US President is likely to sign a directive, suspending all H1B visas for entire 2020.

Those who are anti-immigration and temporary job visas are celebrating this already.

RJ Hauman, government relations director at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) said, “No matter how you slice it, this is shaping up to be a big win for American workers at a critical time,”

Which Work Visas Can Be Suspended Till Year End?

Besides the popular H1B visa, which is broadly used by IT firms, other temporary work visas such L-1 visa, H2B visa, J1 visa, and more can be suspended, as per the reports.

While L-1 visa is for internal movements within a company, H2B visa is for temporary workers in the hotel and construction industry; J1 visa is for academicians such as research scholars and professors besides cultural and work-exchange programs.

Exemptions For Visa Suspension?

Those who are employed in the US under various work visas won’t be affected.

Another set of report states that there can be broad exceptions in the new order of visa suspension, and health care workers and agriculture workers under temp work visas can be exempted.

Earlier, we had reported that H1B visa and other temporary visas can be suspended only till October. Nasscom has already warned that suspending H1B visas can severely impact US economy as well, as firms which are hiring employees on H1B visa also generate jobs for the US economy.
