Schools, Colleges Can Open After August 15th: Union Minister

Union HRD Minister Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal has declared that it’s very likely that all schools and colleges will be opened after August 15th.

He said this during an interview.

There are 33 crore students in India, and they, along with their families are eagerly awaiting the news about reopening of their schools and colleges.

While most of the schools have started online classes, but since only 8% of the kids in India have a medium to carry online classes, this has been seen as a failure in India, atleast now.

However, there is a condition attached.

Schools, Colleges To Open Only If..

As per the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal, schools and colleges in India can be allowed to open after August 15th, only if Home Ministry allows this.

He said, “If the situation is conducive and the Home Ministry permits then we can open schools in August. The schools are likely to be reopened after August 15.”

Although Unlock 1.0 has been announced, and lockdown is almost over across the nation except in containment zones, number of cases are increasing in India.

Almost 10,000 cases were reported on June 7th, as India has now become 6th biggest nation with the total number of Covid-19 cases.

Amidst this, Ministry of Home Affairs need to checkout the status of new cases area-wise, and then take decision on the reopening of schools and colleges.

Earlier, the Minster had stated that if the schools are opened from July 1st, only 30% attendance will be mandatory.

He had said, “It is quite possible that classes would be able to incapacitate only 30 per cent of students they used to have before coronavirus. These modalities are being worked out by NCERT,”

The Minister also said that the CBSE and ISCE Board exams will be held from July 1st.

While The CBSE board exams will be conducted from July 1 to 15, ICSE/ ISC board exams will be held from July 1 to 12.
