As per the reports, over 80,000 passengers have booked tickets worth over Rs 16 crore on the special trains so far.

On Tuesday, the Indian Railways said, hours before the first such train is scheduled to depart from the New Delhi station for Bilaspur in Madhya Pradesh as bookings for these special trains began at 6 pm on Monday. 

How Did This Happen?

On Sunday, Indian Railways announced that it plans to gradually resume passenger train operations from 12th May 2020. 

Further, the train services have initially begun with 15 pairs of trains or with 30 journeys from Tuesday.

While online bookings for reservations were scheduled to begin Monday from 4 pm via IRCTC website or app. 

Although, due to heavy traffic on the site, the website has been down since.

That’s why Indian Railways has deferred the timing of bookings for the special 15 trains by two hours ie the “Booking for 15 special trains delayed by two hours, will begin at 6 PM now,” railways said.

How To Book A Ticket?

Sof ar, only online E-Ticketing can be done via the IRCTC website or through its mobile App. 

Also, no tickets will be booked across the reservation counter at any station. 

Additionally, the booking of tickets through ‘agents’, (both IRCTC Agents and Railway Agents) shall not be permitted. 

On top of that, the Maximum Advance Reservation Period (ARP) will be of not more than seven (7) days, the ministry said in a statement.

Further, only confirmed e-tickets shall be booked. 

As booking of RAC/Waiting list ticket and onboard booking by ticket checking staff shall not be permitted, the ministry added.

Moreover, these trains will be run as special trains to and from New Delhi Station.

Also, the Ministry of Railways announced the timings of the trains that will run from 12 May, 2020 in a tweet.

What Are The New Rules That Passenger Has To Be Aware Before Traveling?

As per the reports, the trains will be running as special trains from New Delhi Station connecting 15 important cities of the country such as Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Jammu Tawi.

Below are the new rules apply to these special trains.

  1. Basically, all the passenger trains will be run with AC coaches only and with limited stoppages. 
  2. The fare will be equivalent to the ticket fare that is charged for Rajdhani Train.
  3. Also, the ticket booking counters at stations will remain closed and no counter tickets, including platform tickets, will be issued. 
  4. It is mandatory to wear face cover, undergo screening at departure and only asymptomatic passengers will be allowed on trains.
  5. The fare doesn’t include catering charges, also provision for prepaid meal booking, e-catering shall be disabled. 
  6. IRCTC shall make provision for limited eatables and packaged drinking water on a payment basis and information to this effect shall be made available to passengers during the time of booking a ticket.
  7. Also, dry, ready-to-eat food and bottled water shall be provided on demand, inside the trains on a payment basis.
  8.  Only the passengers with valid confirmed tickets will be allowed to enter the railway stations.
