iPhones Sales Increase By 326% In India, Beats OnePlus; Samsung Is #1 In Premium Segment

As per the Counterpoint Research released report on premium smartphone (>?30,000 / >$400) segment, Samsung climbed the ladder to acquire the first position, whereas, Apple remained second, and OnePlus was pushed to third place, in India for Q1 2020.

How Did This Happen?

Basically, the South Korean smartphone maker was successful because of new product launches like the Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy Note 10 Lite and the ultra-premium Galaxy S20 series. 

Although, the former two models helped a lot, thanks to their much affordable price tags between $400 – $500 (?30,000 – ?45000)

Apart from that, the firm’s various discounts and cashback offers on the Galaxy S20 series also helped in boosting the sales. 

As per the reports, Samsung captured 34% of the total premium smartphone segment of India in Q1 2020.

What About Apple Smartphone?

According to the report, Apple was in second place in the premium segment, while it acquired first place with 55% market share in the ultra-premium (>$600) category. 

Further, the smartphone company witnessed a 326% YoY growth in this segment with 40% sales from online channels.

Also, their new iPhone 11 replaced the iPhone XR as the best selling smartphone in the whole premium segment. 

Moreover, it accounted for 17% of total shipments in this category. Still, the iPhone XR managed to capture third place with a 9% market share.

What About OnePlus Smartphone?

As per the reports, the OnePlus 7T was the second-highest selling smartphones in the premium segment with 11% market share. 

Although, as a whole, OnePlus slipped to the third position. 

The reason behind it said to be most customers were waiting for the launch of next-generation OnePlus 8 series.

Also, it is said, that the smartphone market in India will not be the same in the next quarter. 

As expected, the lockdown issued by the government severely affected sales in the last week of March itself.

In early May, the country’s MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) just recently allowed to begin the sales of smartphones. 

Moreover, the OEMs will have to work hard to maintain their positions, as almost there were no sales for the whole of April.
