Amazon, Flipkart Expand Warehouses By 30 Lakh Square Feet In These 7 Cities: Big Boom In Ecommerce Expected!

Major e-commerce giants, Amazon and Flipkart, are planning to lease warehouses of more than 3 million square feet space. 

The e-commerce platforms are sure that after the lockdown is lifted, there will be a surge in online shopping on these platforms.

Amazon And Flipkart To Expand Warehouses; Expect Business To Surge After Lockdown Lifts 

Both Amazon and Flipkart are sure that once the lockdown is lifted, and the Coronavirus is dealt with, there will be a boost in the demand and the online orders. 

Amazon India’s unit has already contracted as much as 2 million square feet, whereas, Flipkart has contracted 1 mission square feet space. The space has been acquired in areas of Bengaluru, Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Coimbatore.

While it didn’t confirm the news, Amazon revealed, “Amazon India has more than 50 fulfilment centres with more than 26 million cubic feet of storage space across 13 states. We do not comment on things we may or may not do and cannot comment on upcoming fulfilment centres.”

New Facilities To Be Up And Running By The End Of The Year

As per reports, the new facilities will be up and running by the end of the year under the built-to-suit model. Both the giants are looking to expand their existence in India. These plans have been in the works even before the Coronavirus pandemic occurred, and are a huge part in Amazon and Flipkart’s growth strategy in India. 

As revealed by sources close to the development, “Both the companies have picked up spaces for around 10 years with a lock-in period of five years each.”

The lockdown imposed on the country due to the Coronavirus has affected all the industries and therefore the economy of the country. The platforms have been allowed to deliver essential items to people during this time. 

In addition to that, they will also be delivering non-essential items to the orange and green zones in specific cities as the government has already given them permission to do so.
