All Ecommerce Deliveries Allowed In Orange, Green Zones; Amazon Urges Govt To Allow In Red Zone Too

The lockdown has been extended for the third time now, as the coronavirus pandemic shows no signs of slowing down. However, the Government has announced that e-commerce platforms can deliver only essential products in the red zone.

After the Government allowed for the non-essential items to be delivered in the green and orange zones, e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart have asked the Government to give permission for the same in red zones as well.

E-Commerce Platforms Rejoice As Government Reduces Restrictions In Extended Lockdown

The Ministry of Home Affairs has reduced several restrictions after extending the lockdown for the third time. This change has been happily embraced by e-commerce giants. The Ministry has announced in a note that e-commerce deliveries of non-essential products will be allowed only for Green and red zones. 

A spokesperson of Amazon India said, “We welcome the Government’s decision to allow eCommerce in orange and green zones to serve people safely with products that they need and have not been able to access due to the lockdown.”

He also said that millions of small and medium businesses and traders will now be able to restart their businesses and livelihoods as well. This move will also enable professionals that are working from home to get access to the goods and services that they require to work from their homes.

Ecommerce Giants Urge The Government To Allow Delivery Of Non-Essential Products In Red Zone

Ecommerce giants, Amazon and Flipkart have requested the Government that delivery of non-essential products to be allowed in red zones as well. The e-commerce platforms have issued a statement wherein they have asked the Government to do the same.

In the statement, Amazon has stated, “While we will maintain the sanctity of the new guidelines around the Red Zones, we urge the government to consider the positive role e-commerce can play to get customers all priority products they need in the Red Zones as well.”

Flipkart too has supported this request asking for non-essential goods to be delivered to people that will help them to work from home.

Previously, Nasscom had also asked the Government to include the basic requirements such as office chairs, routers, laptops or desktops, etc. as essentials for e-commerce deliveries.
