Maruti Suzuki Reports Zero Sales 1st Time Ever In History; Harayana Bans Sales Of New Vehicles

Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest car manufacturer, and imagine the dire strait the country is in when Maruti Suzuki reports zero sales for the month. The Coronavirus pandemic has affected the economy gravely, and automobile manufacturers are not an exception.

Maruti Suzuki Reports Zero Monthly Sales For The First Time

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has reported zero monthly sales for the first time. Every other automobile manufacturer will probably follow suit as all the plants and manufacturing facilities were shut in the month of April due to the lockdown being imposed by Coronavirus pandemic. 

The Government had also given permission to partially resume operations in Gujarat, where Maruti reported that they exported 632 vehicles from Mundra port. 

The sales and production of Maruti Suzuki had been suspended since March 22. The sales in March 2020 declined by 47% when the company sold 83,792 units as compared to the 158,076 units sold in the same month last year. 

Haryana Government Bans Purchase Of New Vehicles In Current Financial Year

The Government of Haryana has announced a complete ban on the purchase of all new vehicles, including cars and jeeps during the current financial year. The ban does not include buses for public transport and vehicles used for emergency responses. 

The official statement stated that the decision was taken in the Haryana cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Khattar had revealed that the state’s revenue has been diminished in this time, “We will have to curtail our expenses and generate sources of income.”

As per Khattar, the state of Haryana has lost as much as Rs. 4600 crore revenue. 

The cabinet also announced that should the need for a car or a jeep arise urgently, the vehicles should be outsourced or hired.
