Doordarshan has declared that Ramanand Sagar’s epic TV serial: Ramayana has now become world’s most watched TV serial.

On April 16th, a record 7.7 crore viewers tuned into Doordarshan to watch the repeat telecast of Ramayana serial, and it has now made history

Doordarshan informed the nation via Twitter that Ramayana is now world’s most watched TV serial.

Doordarshan said, “Rebroadcast of #Ramayana on #Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes mrdsost watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on 16th of April.”

Doordarshan started re-telecast of Ramayana from March 28th onwards, and soon it broke all records of viewership.

Within a week, Ramayana garnered record 5.1 crore views, which made it most watched Hindi serial ever in India and world. This feat was achieved on the first weekend of the re-telecast.

Now, Ramayana has become World’s most watched TV serial ever, breaking all records of international blockbusters like Game Of Thrones, Bing Bang Theory and more.

Then, in the 13th week of the year, Ramayana generated record 1.5 billion views, which was another huge record.

Ramayana is being telecasted on Doordarshan and DD Retro, the new channel from Doordarshan, which will only telecast old classic. Besides, Doordarshan is being mandatorily shown across all DTH and Cable TVs.
