Mumbai Man Refuses To Accept Grofers Order Delivered By A Muslim; Police Arrests Him

Amidst coronavirus panic and outbreak, a very sad incident has occurred in India’s economic capital Mumbai.

This shows that now hatred and polarisation has seeped deeped into our psyche, and such is the situation that even a deadly virus cannot end it.

We are shocked, and hurt. This isn’t the India we dreamt of, and strive for.

Mumbai Man Refuses Delivery By A Muslim

50-years old Ghanshyam Chaturvedi, who lives in the Mumbai suburb of Mira Road, had ordered few grocery items using popular app Grofers.

When he and his wife came out of society to receive the order, they found that the delivery executive was a Muslim.

Seeing this, Ghanshyam refused to accept the order. He was caught in a video saying that he has specifically asked that the order should not be delivered by a Muslim.

In the video, the delivery executive,  asks him, “Will you not take goods from Muslim?”

He waves off his hands and goes away.

Ironically, his wife was also present there, and she was ready to accept the order.

But it was Ghanshyam, who was stubborn, and refused to accept the order.

Police Arrests Ghanshyam Chaturvedi

After this debacle, the delivery executive complained with the police at Kashimira Road police station, and based on the complaint, Ghanshyam Chaturvedi was arrested.

Police has filed a complaint for “deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious beliefs”, and charged him under relevant Indian Penal Code sections.

There has been no response from Grofers on this matter.

In a similar incident in Madhya Pradesh last year, a Zomato customer refused to accept order from a Muslim delivery person. On this, Zomato had said, “Food has no religion. It is a religion,”

In Hyderabad too, last year, a Swiggy order was rejected as the delivery person was Muslim.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
