Doordarshan Launches New Channel: ‘DD Retro’ For Watching Old, Classic Serials (Expected List)
Buoyed by the incredible success of Ramayana and Mahabharat on Doordarshan, Prasar Bharti has now launched a new channel called DD Retro, which will broadcast all old and classic TV serials.
This was announced by Doordarshan via tweet, where they stated: “To relive the nostalgia of your favorite memorable serials of Doordarshan, watch DD Retro,”
What Will DD Retro Showcase?
As per available information, DD Retro will broadcast all the existing classic TV shows which are being run on DD National.
However, along with that, DD Retro will also broadcast almost every old TV serial which has been already telecasted on DD National, and its associated channels, in the last 60 years.
Doordarshan was launched in 1959.
Some of the shows which will be broadcasted on DD Retro immedietely are:
- Mythological epics Ramayana and Mahabharat
- Historical dramas Chanakya directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi
- Upanishad Ganga produced by Chinmaya Mission Trust
- Superhero series Shaktimaan featuring Mukesh Khanna
- Comedy drama Shriman Shrimati from Markand Adhikari
- Shah Rukh Khan’s Circus
- Detective show Byomkesh Bakshi
- Drama show Hum Hain Na
- Sitcoms Tu Tota Main Maina and Dekh Bhai Dekh.
These shows are already being broadcasted on Doordarshan as of now.
What Inspired DD Retro?
After re-broadcasting Ramayana and Mahabharat, Doordarshan became India’s #1 TV channel as its viewership soared by whooping 54,000%.
Especially, Ramayana and Mahabharat were the blockbusters.
The 9AM and 9PM slots on Doordarshan witnessed 60-times more viewers, while Mahabharat, which was telecasted at 12PM and 7PM slots witnessed 208-times more viewers.
How To Watch DD Retro?
As per Govt orders, all DD channels need to be shows to all cable and DTH users.
