Jio Offers Free Broadband To Help Fight #Coronavirus; But BSNL Reduces Validity Of Annual Plans?

Due to the coronavirus spread, India is under a lockdown, and private firms are pushing for Work From Home mode for all employees

In order to help users cope with the work from home tasks, telecom operators have rolled out some interesting features.

In this endeavor, Jio has announced that they will provide free broadband connection to new users.

However, BSNL has suddenly reduced validity of their annual plans, and this is a bad news.

Jio Offers Free Broadband

Jio has launched #CoronaHaaregaIndiaJeetega initiative to fight coronavirus, and under this, they are offering free broadband connection to new users.

The speed will be capped at 10Mbps only, for this offer.

However, the new users will need to pay the installation charges of Rs 2500 for the new connection, out of which, Rs 1500 will be refundable.

The new users also need to pay a minimum amount for the home gateway routers.

In a statement, Jio said, “To ensure that everyone stays connected while at home, Jio will provide Basic JioFiber broadband connectivity (10 Mbps), wherever it is geographically feasible, without any service charges, for this (coronavirus) period,”

Jio had earlier doubled the data benefits on prepaid data recharges, to help users deal with coronavirus impact. A special work from home plan was also launched by Jio.

Interestingly, Airtel has pitched to Jio and Vodafone to combine their forces, and increase network capacity to benefit all users. Internet usage has spiked by 80% as entire India is under a lockdown, and telecom providers are requesting video streaming portals to reduce or stop HD streaming.

BSNL Reduces Validity Of Annual Plans

Meanwhile state-run telecom carrier has suddenly reduced validity of their long term, annual plans, and this can shocked a lot of users.

BSNL’s popular Rs 1699 plan will now provide validity of only 300 days. Other benefits remain the same:  250 minutes of voice calls per day, 100 SMSes per day and 2GB daily data.

Besides, BSNL has also reduced benefits under PV 186, STV 187, STV 98, STV 99 and STV 319 plans.

While PV 186 and STV 187 will offer less data benefits, STV 98, STV 99 and STV 319 will have less validity.

Considering that BSNL offered free broadband for all new users due to the coronavirus impact, this sudden reduction of validity by BSNL has shocked their loyal fans.
