Why This Decision Has Been Taken?

Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana TV serial was first broadcasted in 1987, and instantly became one of the biggest hits in entire Doordarshan’s history.

It ran between 25 January 1987 to 31 July 1988, every Sunday morning.

It is said that when Ramayana was broadcasted, no one in India came out of their homes, as they didnt want to miss the epic historical drama, which is the story of Lord Rama and his kingdom at Ayodhaya.

Some social media users recommended re-broadcasting Ramayana to help Indians quarantine during the lockdown, and the suggestion was accepted.

While Lord Rama played by Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhalia played Sita’s character and Sunil Lahri was Lakshman. Late Dara Singh was the Hanuman and Arvind Trivedi as Ravana.

The TV series had a cult following, and everyone, literally everyone in India were glued to their TV sets during its run.

In 2008, NDTV Imagine re-telecasted this series, while ZEE TV broadcasted the same in mid-90. Later, in 2000s, Star TV and Star Utsav also had a re-run of Ramayana.

It would be interesting to observe if the re-boradcast of Ramayana will help Indians to stay inside their homes or not.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
