Coronavirus has gripped the country, the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous. Almost the entire country is under lockdown and people are scared to step into the street. 

However, the Government of India has come up with the largest ration subsidy scheme for the entire 80 crore population of India.

Modi-led Government Announced World’s Largest Food Security Scheme For Entire India

The Prime Minister of India announced lockdown for the entire country yesterday, for 21 days straight. To keep the food supply to the population connected, the the Modi-led government has announced the world’s largest food security scheme for the whole 80 crore population of India. 

As revealed by Cabinet Minister Prakash Javadekar, who is also the Information & Broadcast Minister, the whole population of 80 crore people will receive 7 kg ration every month. This includes wheat will be sold at a cost of Rs 2 per kg, which is Rs. 27 per kg before. Also, rice will be sold at rs. 3 per kg, instead of Rs. 37 per kg. 

He also said, “The government has decided to provide 7 kg per person of foodgrains to 80 crore people under the Public Distribution System (PDS), which the world’s largest food security system.”

This decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As per reports, all the states have been asked to collect the foodgrains from the Centre in advance for distribution through the PDS. 

Apparently, state-run Food Corporation of India (FCI) has a lot of wheat and rice stock, which is why this decision has been taken. Additionally, the FCI is under pressure to clear the stock before monsoon sets in. 

Recapitalization Of Rural Banks, Govt Contractual Workers Will Be Paid Entire Salary

Additionally, the CCEA has also approved the recapitalization of rural banks with Rs. 1340 crores, in order to improve their capital adequacy ratio. Rs. 670 crores will be provided by the collected from multiple banks. Also, the centre and state tax subsidy will be applicable for apparel export.

The government has also announced that the contractual workers of the government will be paid their entire salary irrespective of the work disturbed by the scare of coronavirus.
