#Coronavirus: Uber, Ola Suspends Services In Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune & 17 Big Cities (Full List)

As the cases in the country reach 500, Ola and Uber have suspended their cab-hailing service in top cities including Delhi National Capital Region, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, heeding to the state government’s directives in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

Ola And Uber Shut Services in Lock-down Cities!

On March 22, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba had said all efforts should be made to prevent unnecessary travel.

The central and state governments decided to lock down 75 districts across the country where Covid-19 cases have been reported to contain the spread of the virus. The districts where lockdown was announced include states of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. 

The ride hailing platform, Ola said it will “enable a minimal network of vehicles” to support essential services in cities. Uber said its services across the country have bore a massive impact. 

Uber sent an email to its riders which read, “In compliance with the government guidelines, we are temporarily suspending all Uber services in your city. This means that Uber rides services will not be available until further notice. We don’t take such measures lightly, and we ask that you please follow the instructions of the public health authorities.”

It also read Uber said, “This means that, while we will continue to offer services to meet the essential and urgent travel needs of many communities we serve, some or all of Uber’s rides services will not be available till further notice (in some cities).” 

Ola has said it will encourage citizens to travel for only essential needs and non-essential travel will be curbed. The app is working but there are very few rides available in the lockdown cities.  It also said, “Ola will continue to encourage citizens to limit travel only for essential emergency needs as per the Government’s directive. We will enable a minimal network of vehicles to support essential services in cities, wherever applicable, as part of this national effort to reduce the contagion of COVID-19.” 

No Rides Available in Other Top Cities!

Ola and Uber account for a major share of the taxis running in the Delhi NCR — had already temporarily suspended their shared rides on their respective platforms. The ride hailing platforms have suspended their operations till March 31 amid the lockdown.

Uber has also shut down services in cities such as Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ranchi, Pune, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Ajmer, Jaipur, Agra, Lucknow, Durgapur and Siliguri, among others.
